Aishwarya to walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra

Aishwarya Rai will be walking the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra at the upcoming third edition of the India Couture Week.

"Beautiful Aishwarya is going to be the showstopper at my couture week show, " Malhotra posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The designer, who has worked on Aishwarya's looks for the mega-budget Endhiran and Action Replayy, is known to have given makeovers to many actresses, including Karisma Kapoor and Rani Mukerji.

He will be opening the couture week, starting Oct 6-10.

The designer says he will be showcasing 55 different outfits and emerald will be the dominant colour in his collection.

Director Chetan Desai says, "In Hindu mythology, she was known as the most beautiful woman. We had to find someone as stunning as Shurpanakha.

The actress, who has gone for an issue based movie again after Lamhaa, posted that Jhootha Hi Sahi and Aakrosh are releasing on October 15 and this has happened first time in their nine year long career in Bollywood. The actress has expressed hope that both the movies do well at the Box Office.

Well, it will be a test for the two actors because it will also disclose their popularity among the audience? However, considering the promotions of both the films, it seems both of them belong to totally different genre and there will be different kinds of audience for the two films. John strips for men!

Usually it is the girls who fall for actor John Abraham's good looks, but the launch of the karaoke CD for his upcoming film "Jhootha Hi Sahi" saw men asking him to take off his shirt.

John unhesitatingly complied to their demands at the event here Sunday, but said: "I am too shy for all this. "

As it happened, men gathered there were overwhelmed by his presence and wanted to see his chiselled body. They started screaming and asking John to strip off his shirt.

The Karaoke music CD for the film, launched by Saregama India Ltd. , will be available in a premium music pack, containing one song CD, one karaoke CD, an eight-fold lyrics booklet and one 'lie detector card' apart from two postcards, said a press statement.

Actor Eesha Koppikar got a luxury car from husband Timmy Narang as a birthday gift. Not just that, Timmy even threw her a lavish themed birthday party.

Recounts the b'day gal, "Though I love cars I am very simple where my tastes are concerned. Timmy decided to pamper me by gifting me a 7 series BMW.

When I woke up in the morning, it was all packaged and ribboned in the driveway. I thought the car was for him and even remarked 'That's a nice car!' That's when Timmy told me it was for me. I was stunned!"

Koppikhar says that her birthday party started as a surprise but Timmy couldn't keep it up and kept asking her for her friends' numbers. "Finally I told him that I knew what he was up to and that I could help too. "

She adds, "The party was at Narang House with over 200 people attending. The theme was gothic with a vampire overtone. I wore a vintage black dress with black beads and a cross while Timmy wore black lipstick.

We decorated the room with illuminated crosses, creepers, coffins, candles and blue lights while the dance floor was lit up with neon lights so when we flashed our teeth they looked green. I called it my 'spooktacular party!" Even the food and beverages were in sync with the theme. "

Eesha concludes, "I cut down on films when I got married. I decided to take a sabbatical. I wanted to enjoy my marriage but now I am reading scripts and hearing narrations. "

The nightingale of India, Lata turns 81

Playback legend Lata Mangeshkar turns 81 Tuesday, with fans swearing by her golden voice even as she has chosen to cut down on assignments after singing for over 1, 000 Hindi movies.

Starting her career in 1942, she reigned over the film industry for decades and is still the first preference of many filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Madhur Bhandarkar and an inspiration to established singers of today.

Lata, who was born Sep 28, 1929, also featured in the Guinness World Records book from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world. She was last heard in Bhandarkar's Jail.

"Lataji's birthday is a great event. She has given us so much in terms of music, love and affection. I just hope that she lives on forever and gives her blessings to us. I am very close to her and I am happy, proud and fortunate that she is close to me, " said filmmaker Yash Chopra who has vowed only to work with her among the female singers in the industry.

"Jab bhi ji chahe" (Daag); "Kabhi kabhie mere dil mein" (Kabhi Kabhie); "Neela asman so gaya" (Silsila); Meri bindiya teri nindiya (Lamhe); "Dholna" (Dil To Pagal Hai) and "Tere Liye" (Veer Zaara) are some of Lata's hit numbers for Chopra.

Bhansali is in fact composing an album as a tribute to her.

"I know every nuance in her voice. She is a miracle of nature. And there's so much in her throat that is still untapped. I first thought I'd create just one song for her in 'Guzaarish'. Then I thought, why one song when a whole ethos, era after era of supreme excellence is embodied in that voice?" Bhansali said.

"Lataji is far more than a singer. She mirrors all the beauty of the soul. It is that beauty that I want to capture in my songs, " he added.

Not just this, Bhansali's forthcoming film Guzaarish is also inspired by one of Lata's imperishable melodies, "Hai tere saath meri wafaa mein nahin to kya", composed by Madan Mohan and written by Kaifi Azmi for the film Hindustan Ki Kasam.

Starting her career in 1942 with songs in Marathi, Lata's first Hindi song was "Paa lagoon kar jori" for Vasant Joglekar's movie "Aap Ki Seva Mein" in 1946. Two years later, composer Ghulam Haider gave Lata her first major break with the song "Dil mera toda" in Majboor and after that there was no looking back for the nightingale of India, as she is fondly called.

She has worked with all the major composers of the bygone era and mesmerised the current lot too.

Lata has recorded songs for over 1, 000 Hindi movies and sung in more than 36 regional Indian languages. She is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

Lilting melodies like "Aayega aanewala" from Mahal, "Aaja re pardesi" from Madhumati, "Pyar kiya to darna kya" from Mughal-e-Azam and "Satyam shivam sundaram" from the film of the same name still find a place on the favourite list of music lovers.

She has sung all kinds of songs in her long career, including romantic numbers like "Tumhen yaad karte karte", "Ajeeb daastan hai yeh", and naughty ones like "Main kamsin hoon", "Bahon mein chale aao", "Bangle ke peeche" and "Choti si umar main" as well as devotional songs like "Paoji maine Ram ratan dhan pao" and "O palan hare".

Even singers are still in awe of the great singer who is also the elder sister of singer Asha Bhosle.

"I can't express in words what she means to me and how I feel for her. Just want to wish her a happy and healthy life ahead, " Sunidhi Chauhan said.

Playback singer Sonu Niigaam added: "I want to wish a very happy birthday to Lataji. Many many best wishes to her. I would just like to tell her that keep enlightening India and world with your songs and bless me. "

Shahid, Priyanka's close moments In Goa!

Lots of speculations have been made and said about the alleged Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor relationship but it seems that there is no end to it. Now, there is a report that the two Bollywood stars had recently gone for a short holiday in Goa!

It seems that they want to come out of the 'good friends' tag to a publicly declared couple. Last month, when Priyanka left for Brazil to shoot for the reality show 'Khatron Ke Khiladi', she was reportedly dropped by Shahid.

The actress left for Brazil on 16th August and came back to Mumbai on 8th September, which was a gap of almost one month.

A source was quoted saying that soon after returning from Brazil, the unofficial couple made a plan to spend some time together and had a very short one-day trip to Goa. They had reportedly left on September 9 and spent just one day there. Priyanka was scheduled to leave for Delhi on the next day and the promotions of her Anjaana Anjaani followed after that.

An eyewitness was quoted saying that the stars took a 12 pm flight from Mumbai and they were seated in the business class section of the flight with number 9W-475. They were dressed in casuals and wore dark glasses, probably to avoid eye contact with anyone else.

Ranbir: When I was in New York, I was new to the place; I had to depend on strangers even if I had to reach some place.
Priyanka: I remember when I was travelling for my studies to Boston, USA, for the first time, I was all by myself and I had these huge bags. A lady came up to me and helped me with those bags all the way to the check-in counter. It taught me a lot about compassion.

What is the weirdest conversation you've struck up with a stranger?
Ranbir:It happened in San Francisco, while I was shooting for Anjaana Anjaani. I was walking in the night at around 2 am, and it was really cold. A beggar started singing a song about his life -- how once he had everything going for him; a good career, a good life, but how whiskey spoilt everything.

I was so impressed with his openness, I gave him money. He said that he didn't want my money, although he needed it. He gave me a string that was attached to his guitar -- I still have it on my right leg, I haven't taken it off.
Priyanka: I'm not the kind of person who will make the first move with a stranger. I always like the other person to break the ice.

Okay, once the two of you were no longer strangers, did you get to know something about the other that was a shocker?
Ranbir: She's more of a daredevil than I am -- she can pick up a snake or jump off a bridge.
Priyanka: I found that at times Ranbir can be very thoughtful ¦ but only at times (laughs).

What do you guys fight about?
Ranbir: She takes far too much time to get ready. I have become friends with her so I can take the liberty of hurrying her up with: 'How much time do you take!' She is always sweet and says, 'I'm sorry'.
Priyanka: Ranbir fights with me about my unpunctuality but forgets that I'm a girl -- he expects me to miraculously change my clothes and be ready for the shot or for a party. He fights with me. I don't. Actually, we keep fighting about everything and anything all the time. We are also constantly hitting each other.

Ranbir, how do you stop PC from going on Twitter?
Ranbir: You can't. She began the craze at a time when many of us weren't even aware of it. She loves to interact with her fans.

Priyanka, make a choice -- Steve Carell doing a pole dance or Ranbir Kapoor?
Priyanka: I actually haven't seen Steve Carell dancing, but it would be a treat to watch Ranbir doing a pole dance; you will see it in this film.

Ranbir: She really loves Shah Rukh (Khan)a lot; I want her to get into a fist fight with Shah Rukh.

The Telugu Desam Party’s latest outburst against Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao and the open confrontation between both the parties are all set to cast a shadow on the release of “Brindavanam,” the forthcoming blockbuster of Junior N T Rama Rao.
There are apprehensions that the TRS activists, particularly its student wing, might resort to large scale vandalism at the theatres at the time of release of Brindavanam film. Open Secret: Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi are engaged

India's tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi and Bollywood beauty Lara Dutta have made their journey afresh as they got engaged each other.

Bhupathi has announced this on Twitter saying, "So Lara and me got engaged in NY last week, " a published report said on Sunday.

As Bhupthai posted this online, he was flooded with congratulatory wishes. The couple had been in New York since August for the US Open and Davis cup, and also because Lara had to attend a photo shoot for a magazine.

Bhupathi was claimed to be the apparent reason behind Lara dumping Dino Morea. The lady has been held responsible for the divorce between Bhupathi and Shwetha Jaishankar, said the Times of India.

The couple has of late given ample indications of their closeness, including hand-in-hand appearances at many award shows. But rumours of them living in were subsequently rubbished. Though the industry has been anxiously waiting for a confirmation on their alleged romantic relationship, both remained coy... but things have clearly changed now.

Akshay Kumar got into a verbal spat with his Tees Maar Khan co-star Katrina Kaif over her being unable to shoot for a music video

Tees Maar Khan co-producer and lead actor Akshay Kumar recently had a verbal argument with his co-star Katrina Kaif. He needed dates from her to shoot a music video for TMK and she flatly refused.

Sources reveal that the actress's dates were blocked for her Yash Raj film with Imran Khan and she was unable to change her schedule.

Says a source, "This is the first time Akki and Kat got into an actual fight. Her saying no got him all worked up. He reminded her of past adjustments he had made for her. Kat, on her part, said that she wouldn't be able to share dates till mid-October as the YRF banner was important to her and that the schedule was locked."

Moreover, Farah Khan is in a hurry to wrap the film in time for a Christmas Day release. She has managed a smooth schedule so far. Akshay, meanwhile, wants Kat to complete the music video before she busies herself with other commitments.

Adds the source, "Things really soured between Kat and Akshay over the date imbroglio. They stopped talking to each other for a while. But then, Farah stepped in. The duo is shooting a qawalli in Mumbai with Salman Khan and FK didn't want their cold vibes to spoil the song."

The director spoke to her heroine and everything has been sorted out. "The video will be shot on October 15. Katrina managed to get YRF to allow her to shoot for the title track video featuring the entire star cast. In any case, Kat is very fond of Akshay and will not allow their relationship to sour."

Kareena Kapoor will go through with her plans of celebrating her birthday with her beau despite falling ill due to punishing work schedule

An extremely unwell Kareena Kapoor almost considered missing her flight to Paris via London and her birthday celebration today with beau Saif Ali Khan.

The actress is in Mumbai for three days to shoot for her shampoo, soap and face cream commercials. She even found some time to throw a party for Malaika Arora Khan and attend Tusshar Kapoor's party in Juhu but fell seriously ill on Saturday.

Talking to us last night before her departure, Kareena said, "It's been a very hectic schedule. I left Latvia to shoot for my endorsements in Mumbai. They had wanted me to shoot in Thailand but I couldn't because of lack of time. So they flew down an entire team of 40 Malaysian and Thai make-up artistes to Mumbai for the shoot.

But since I was shooting continuously in water for my shampoo and soap ads which included bathing in the tub scene, I developed severe cold, a bad throat and high fever."

As a result, Bebo's birthday plans (carefully organised by her man) almost went for a toss. Kareena added, "Mom (Babita Kapoor) has been firing me since Saturday about working so hard and falling so ill.

She's very worried that I'll be travelling alone to Paris via London as I might not be able to cope on my own. She thinks I have been pushing myself too hard and neglecting my health but I had no choice but to complete this schedule."

Saifoo's girlfriend was on injections, medicines and taking lots of rest throughout the day to make sure that she could travel in the night. She told us, "Mom is not very keen that I travel when I am so ill but I am going because Saif has planned a very special birthday night for me and I can't let him down by not going... so come what may I will go! This is one time I can't listen to mom."

For my Bebo!

Apart from a special dinner at Johnny Depp's Ritz Hotel in Paris, Saif Ali Khan will also spend four days in the French capital with Kareena. While Saif had given his gal a huge diamond ring a couple of years ago on her birthday, this time too, the buzz is that he has another very expensive gift, along similar lines planned for his Bebo.

Sonam Kapoor will be bedridden for 20 days

A typhoid-affected Sonam Kapoor will be bedridden for 20 days

Sonam Kapoor has been hit by typhoid. She will be out of action for around three weeks.

A source close to Sonam says, "After she came back from her US holiday and her Thank You shoot, Sonam became extremely unwell. She was diagnosed as having typhoid and was advised complete bed rest for 20 days by her doctor."

Apparently, Sonam was asked to walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra (she had acted in his nephew's directorial debut I Hate Luv Storys) during the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) but had to cancel because of her illness.

The source retorts, "Sonam was not to walk the ramp but simply attend LFW. In fact, she had to cancel a few work commitments including an endorsement event because of her ailment. She couldn't go to Delhi or shoot for Thank You. She's resting at home and can't attend anything."

Sonam says, "I was never going to walk the ramp for Manish. I was down with typhoid but am better now."

'Munni' rocks to Munni Badnaam, Big B-Shatru patch up

This has got to be the most rocking birthday party in living history. To say the ageless Shabana Azmi turned 60 with a bang on Saturday at the lounge Trilogy, would be an understatement.

Real- life Munni (Shabana's pet name) rocked to the pounding sound of the new dance hit Munni badnaam.

Shabana chortled the next morning, “Everybody was very amused to see Jaya and me flaunt our ambiguous dancing skills. Ash couldn't stop explaining that her ma-in-law was on a roll….My sister-in-law Tanvi and brother Baba wouldn't leave the dance floor.

He's such a fabulous dancer, very heavily influenced by Shammi Kapoor. Zara socho, bhai itna achcha dancer aur bahen has two left feet! Everybody danced to songs from yesteryears and of course Munni badnaam was a favourite.”

I missed Shyam Benegal and Mahesh Bhatt who are out of the country.”

Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha Patch Up On Shabana's 60th Birthday!

Even though Shabana Azmi was the star attraction of the day, two other stars took the limelight.

Big B Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha had a cold vibe since 2008 when the latter commented that certain film awards had been partial to Mr. Bachchan and his family and Big B also lashed out at Sinha in his blog. Since then, both of them were never seen together and if they met accidentally then the hardly said hello before their own way.

However, on Shabana's birthday party, both the veterans were seen having a long conversation with each other and they were together almost the entire evening.

One of the invitees was quoted saying that Mr. Bachchan and Sinha saab were involved in a deep discussion throughout the evening.

Shatrughan Sinha was quoted saying that the duo was sharing their old memories. He added that there were no personal problems between them and all that happened in past was totally at professional level.

Sinha added that he was feeling very happy for Amitabh, who won the National Awards for Paa. He said that National Awards were controversial every year but this time it has done a fair job.

It seems time has acted as a healer between the two veteran stars and they are reviving their old friendship again!

Hurricane Kareena sweeps city

Friends and colleagues who presumed Kareena Kapoor is shooting with Saif Ali Khan in Latvia for espionage action-drama Agent Vinod, were surprised to see the actress in Mumbai on Thursday.

It turns out she was in Mumbai to accomplish a new world record of sorts. In three days, Kapoor shot three back-to-back ads that were initially supposed to be shot in different parts of Hong Kong, Mumbai and Malaysia.

Known to juggle impossible deadlines, Kapoor rushed through two shampoo and one soap ad with international directors, who gawked as she changed into five different costumes in no time.

Kapoor reasoned, "The three ads would normally have taken nine to 10 days to shoot. I had no choice but to shoot them all together in one place. I couldn't fly to three different countries from Latvia."

Each product's crew got only one day to shoot, because Saif was waiting in Latvia for her to resume shooting. "It's madness! On one end of the world, I have Saif and his crew to return to. Down here, there are three teams waiting to complete the shoots, no matter how, " said Kareena.

Last seen, Kareena's mom Babita and sister Karisma were rushing to the venue of the ad shoots to meet Hurricane Kareena. Apparently, Kareena didn't even have time to go home and change!
